as Roger Protz wrote recently:

"It was said of the French Monarchy, the Bourbons, "They have learnt nothing and forgotten nothing"

The global brewers, too, have learnt nothing and forgotten nothing, but they will be around for some time yet, killing our pleasure and treading on our dreams"

True words indeed.

The Public House, Great Britain's historic and social institution, is under threat. At its traditional best the pub combines classless social communion, conviviality, tolerance, atmosphere and, of course, refreshment.

However, this vital hub of community life is fast disappearing, and it is now up to pub-lovers to play their role in keeping our pubs alive.

The best way to start helping to stem the rapid decline of British Pubs - in the latter part of 2009 they were closing at a rate of 39 a week - is of course to visit your local on a regular basis and encourage your friends and family to do likewise. This will help keep your pub healthy and in business.

Ennerdale
Darkest  4.2%                       A dark bitter,  remains remarkably quaffable. With a rich,

head, this beer has converted hundreds of "light beer"
                                                drinkers to the "dark side".

Ale 4.0%                    A crisp and light, exceptionally balanced winter ale, brewed
specially to celebrate 25 years of brewing excellence from the
                                                first microbrewery in Cumbria.

of chocolate  malt and black malt. Complex flavours of
